Senior Software Engineer (AMS)

Oct 18, 2026
Full Time
Engineering
Fully Remote
185k / Yr
All U.S.

We're hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to tackle some of the toughest performance and scalability challenges in our Athlete Management System (AMS), owning the work from initial investigation through production. I'm Charbel Al Batal, Director, Engineering at Teamworks. AMS supports elite sports and military organizations around the world and runs on a Java application with roughly twenty years of history. We’re building on that foundation to support significantly larger workloads, making thoughtful improvements where they will have the greatest impact.

We’re expanding the AMS backend team as part of a major effort to improve performance, reliability, and scale. The work includes evolving a legacy data model, reworking asynchronous processing, and strengthening observability. We’re looking for an engineer who enjoys digging into complex, established systems and finding practical ways to improve them. You’ll have meaningful influence over how AMS evolves—particularly its data-access patterns, asynchronous architecture, containerization strategy, and approach to performance at scale—and customers will directly feel the impact of your work.

The Role

 • Find and address performance bottlenecks across APIs, database queries, calculations, and background jobs, with a focus on improving latency, throughput, and resource use
 • Improve the data-access layer and gradually evolve a legacy data model that relies heavily on XML and JSON
 • Strengthen our queue and asynchronous processing architecture so resource-intensive workloads are separated from customer-facing traffic, calculations complete as close to real time as possible, and retries and failures are handled reliably
 • Improve monitoring and observability, establish performance baselines for large workloads, and help the team spot issues before they affect customers
 • Operate with a high degree of independence, turning broad performance and scalability goals into technical plans and driving them through production
 • Partner with our Data Platform team as AMS becomes an early consumer of Teamworks’ evolving data platform, helping integrate new data capabilities into an established application
 • Serve as a trusted technical partner to engineering leadership by reviewing complex architectural changes, mentoring engineers, and helping the team balance immediate scaling needs with longer-term improvements

What I'm Looking For

What You Must Bring

 • 6+ years of backend engineering experience, including ownership of complex systems from design through production
 • Strong Java skills and hands-on experience working with and improving established codebases
 • Experience with PostgreSQL, RESTful API design, and performance optimization at scale
 • Experience operating backend applications in AWS and working effectively with containerized infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code tooling
 • US citizenship and US-based residency, which are required for access to the secure environment supported by this role
 • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation

Even Better If

 • Experience moving monolithic applications toward containerized or service-oriented architectures
 • Experience in data-intensive, high-scale, or security-sensitive environments
 • Experience with Python
 • A strong understanding of the JVM, including how to troubleshoot memory and CPU issues under load
 • A DevOps background and deep experience with AWS
 • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field

Why This Role

You’ll have the opportunity to shape the future of a well-established product used by elite sports and military organizations around the world. The challenges are complex, the work has a clear impact, and you’ll have meaningful ownership over how AMS grows and performs. It’s a strong fit for someone who likes solving difficult backend problems and wants to see those improvements make a difference for customers.

This role is not eligible for sponsorship at this time.

Staff Data Engineer - AI Platform

TRM Labs

Fully Remote

Build a Safer World.

TRM Labs provides AI-powered intelligence solutions that help public and private sector agencies investigate and disrupt crime. TRM's platforms enable investigators to trace illicit activity, build cases, and construct operating pictures of threat networks. Leading agencies and businesses worldwide rely on TRM to make the world safer and more secure.

TRM's government cloud environment gives public sector investigators the same real-time analytical power our commercial customers rely on, and this role keeps that environment fast, reliable, and compliant as it scales. You'll join the Data Platform Serving team, working on the StarRocks-backed serving layer that sits underneath government cloud investigations, alongside the engineer who currently owns this domain solo. This is a chance to build hands-on distributed systems experience in one of the most operationally demanding environments at TRM: a regulated, high-availability government cloud deployment.

The impact you will have:

You will own performance tuning on the StarRocks serving layer, using AI-assisted query profiling (Claude, internal tooling) to find and fix slow query patterns before they become customer-facing incidents.

You will build and harden data pipelines feeding government cloud investigations, using AI code review workflows to ship reliable changes faster in a high-compliance environment where mistakes are costly.

You will reduce single-point-of-failure risk on GovCloud data infrastructure by becoming the second engineer who can independently operate and troubleshoot the serving layer, cutting incident response time when the primary owner is unavailable.

You will use AI-assisted debugging and log analysis to triage production issues in a regulated environment, turning multi-hour investigations into rapid root-cause fixes.

What we’re looking for:

U.S. citizenship is required for this role due to government cloud data access requirements.

Hands-on experience operating distributed OLAP or serving-layer systems (StarRocks, Trino, ClickHouse, or similar), including query tuning and performance optimization at scale.

Experience owning data pipeline reliability and incident response, and comfort using AI tools (Claude, Cursor, or similar) to accelerate debugging, code review, and documentation.

Independent ownership mindset: you can pick up an unfamiliar piece of production infrastructure, use AI-assisted research and code exploration to ramp quickly, and take on-call responsibility with minimal oversight.

About the Team:

The Data Platform Serving team owns the layer that turns TRM's data into fast, reliable answers for the teams and systems built on top of it.

We're distributed, not distant: the team communicates constantly across Slack and async docs, with a bias toward direct, evidence-based technical discussion.

Decisions are made close to the data: engineers who operate the systems make the calls on architecture and tradeoffs, with input from the broader Data Platform org.

We work closely with Forward Deployed Engineering and Product teams to keep the government cloud environment at parity with our commercial platform.

Team Operating Rhythms:

Weekly team sync to review open incidents, in-flight infrastructure work, and upcoming compliance milestones.

Async daily updates in Slack on pipeline health, ongoing tickets, and blockers.

Sprint-based planning cycles with clear ownership assigned per workstream.

Retro after any production incident to capture learnings and adjust runbooks.

Learn about TRM Speed in this position:

A production database migration broke search-attribute registration across two environments right before a critical audit deadline. The on-call engineer traced the root cause, shipped a fix, and had both environments passing smoke tests again within the same day.

With a compliance deadline days away, the team needed off-cluster backups for the government cloud database with zero prior tooling in place. An engineer designed and shipped the full backup and restore pipeline — three stacked PRs — in under two weeks.

Audit log retention needed to jump to meet a new compliance floor with no advance notice. The engineer used AI-assisted config generation to update retention policies across the environment and verify compliance the same week.

Application Instructions

If you’re interested in joining TRM, we encourage you to apply directly. Every application is reviewed by our Talent team.

Before applying, review the job description carefully and highlight the experience and impact that best demonstrate the required qualifications. Please also provide thoughtful and accurate answers to the application questions, as these will be used to evaluate your qualifications for the role.

If you send your resume directly to someone at TRM, we can’t guarantee it will reach the appropriate hiring team. Applying directly is the best way to ensure you’re considered.

What to Expect From Our Interview Process

Our process is designed to understand how you think, solve problems, and deliver impact, while giving you the opportunity to evaluate TRM. Most interview processes include a case study, AI skills assessment, and Leadership Principles interview.

Recruiter Intro: Explore your experience, motivations, and alignment with the role.

Hiring Manager: Dive deeper into your relevant experience, skills, and impact.

First Round: Typically 1–2 interviews focused on the skills most critical to the role.

Final Round: Meet some of the people you'd be working with. This is usually a panel-style session where we go deeper on your craft, problem-solving, and alignment with TRM.

References: We’ll speak with former colleagues who can provide perspective on your work and impact.

Offer: If it’s a mutual fit, your recruiter will walk you through your offer and answer your questions.

Welcome to TRM: Once you sign, we’ll get you ready for your first day and onboarding.

Your recruiter will share your specific interview plan and preparation guidance along the way.

Learn more about interviewing at TRM

Life at TRM

We are building a safer world. That promise shows up in how we work every day.

TRM moves quickly. We are a high velocity, high ownership team that expects clarity, follow-through, and impact. People who thrive here are energized by hard problems, experimentation, and continuous feedback. If something takes months elsewhere, it will ship here in days.

Our work sits at the intersection of AI, national security, and fighting crime. The problems are complex, the stakes are real, and the environment evolves quickly. The pace and intensity of the work reflect the importance of the mission. As a result, the way we operate requires a high level of ownership, adaptability, collaboration, and creative problem-solving.

At TRM, you should expect:

Priorities and targets to change quickly as we experiment and iterate

Work that often requires operating with a high degree of ambiguity

A high level of personal ownership and accountability

Close collaboration across teams and functions

Frequent, high-touch communication

Creative problem solving and out-of-the-box thinking

A pace that rewards urgency, adaptability, and outcomes

This environment is energizing for people who enjoy building, solving hard problems, and making progress in situations that are not always fully defined. It also requires comfort navigating ambiguity, adjusting course as new information emerges, and maintaining focus and positivity in a fast-moving and intense environment.

We also recognize that this style of operating is not for everyone. If you are primarily optimizing for predictability or a consistently balanced workload, we encourage you to use the interview process to pressure test whether this environment is truly the right fit. We want teammates who thrive here, not just survive here.

At the same time, many people find this work deeply rewarding. If you are excited by meaningful problems, motivated by ambitious goals, and energized by working alongside mission-driven colleagues, there is a good chance you will find TRM to be an exceptional place to grow and contribute. We expect every team member to use AI to accelerate and reimagine their craft, not just automate surface tasks.

At TRM, AI fluency means you are among the top 10 percent of operators in your function in how you apply AI to:

Accelerate repeatable workflows

Structure and solve problems

Improve output quality

Increase speed and leverage

You will be evaluated on applied AI fluency during the interview process.

Leadership Principles

We hire and grow against three leadership principles. They’re the standards for how we operate, treat each other, and make decisions.

Impact-Oriented Trailblazer: We put customers first and move with speed, focus, and adaptability. We treat every plan like an experiment – test, ship, measure, and iterate quickly.

Master Craftsperson: We care deeply about our craft. We balance speed with high standards, own outcomes end‑to‑end, and invest in getting better everyday.

Inspiring Colleague: We add clarity and energy, not noise. We bring humility, candor, and a one‑team mindset — giving and receiving feedback to make the team stronger.

Join our Mission

At TRM, we care deeply about our craft. We are looking for individuals who want their work to matter, who experiment with speed and rigor, and who take pride in building a safer world for billions of people. If you’re excited by TRM’s mission but don’t check every box, we encourage you to apply — we hire for slope, judgment, and the will to learn fast.

TRM is a Series C company with $220M in total funding, backed by Goldman Sachs, Bessemer, Y Combinator, Thoma Bravo, and others.
Company Overview

Deepgram is the leading platform underpinning the emerging trillion-dollar Voice AI economy, providing real-time APIs for speech-to-text (STT), text-to-speech (TTS), and building production-grade voice agents at scale. More than 200,000 developers and 1,300+ organizations build voice offerings that are ‘Powered by Deepgram’, including Twilio, Cloudflare, Sierra, Decagon, Vapi, Daily, Cresta, Granola, and Jack in the Box. Deepgram’s voice-native foundation models are accessed through cloud APIs or as self-hosted and on-premises software, with unmatched accuracy, low latency, and cost efficiency. Backed by a recent Series C led by leading global investors and strategic partners, Deepgram has processed over 50,000 years of audio and transcribed more than 1 trillion words. There is no organization in the world that understands voice better than Deepgram.

Company Operating Rhythm

At Deepgram, we expect an AI-first mindset—AI use and comfort aren’t optional, they’re core to how we operate, innovate, and measure performance.

Every team member who works at Deepgram is expected to actively use and experiment with advanced AI tools, and even build your own into your everyday work. We measure how effectively AI is applied to deliver results, and consistent, creative use of the latest AI capabilities is key to success here. Candidates should be comfortable adopting new models and modes quickly, integrating AI into their workflows, and continuously pushing the boundaries of what these technologies can do.

Additionally, we move at the pace of AI. Change is rapid, and you can expect your day-to-day work to evolve just as quickly. This may not be the right role if you’re not excited to experiment, adapt, think on your feet, and learn constantly, or if you’re seeking something highly prescriptive with a traditional 9-to-5.

About the role

Deepgram's speech models are among the fastest and most accurate in the world, and today we run them at scale on NVIDIA GPUs. Our customers increasingly need those same models on hardware we don't control: non-NVIDIA accelerators, edge servers, and embedded platforms with their own inference runtimes, operator sets, and constraints. Getting Deepgram models onto those platforms, with as few changes to the model as possible and no changes to the hardware paradigm, is the job.

As an Applied ML Engineer on the Partner Platform Engineering team, you sit one layer above the metal. You take a Deepgram model as it exists today and adapt it to run correctly and efficiently within a target platform's existing kernel and runtime paradigm: swapping or reshaping operators, adjusting architecture parameters, choosing quantization and precision schemes, and validating accuracy and latency on the real device. Where a standard kernel isn't enough, you work with our Embedded AI Engineers, who write the custom kernels, and fit the model to what they build. You also own the deployment process that gets those adapted models onto edge targets repeatably.

This is not a research role and not a cloud-serving role. It is applied ML for edge deployment. It is a great fit for a senior engineer who has already shipped models to non-GPU or edge hardware and wants to do it across many platforms, or a staff-level engineer who wants to define how Deepgram ports speech models to new hardware. We'll set the level to your experience.

What you'll do

Port Deepgram speech models to non-NVIDIA and edge platforms, adapting model structure and parameters so they run within the target's existing operator set, runtime, and kernels with minimal modification.

Own serving-side model decisions for edge targets: quantization and precision choices, operator substitution, graph rewrites, and architecture tweaks that fit a model to a device's constraints while holding accuracy and latency.

Validate every port on real hardware: build accuracy, latency, throughput, and memory benchmarks per platform, and catch regressions before a customer does.

Build the deployment path for edge targets: model packaging, conversion pipelines, versioning, and automated delivery so shipping a model to a new device is repeatable rather than bespoke.

Work with Embedded AI Engineers when a standard kernel isn't enough: specify what the model needs, then adapt the model to use the custom kernel they deliver.

Partner with platform and silicon vendors on their runtimes and toolchains, and turn their expected model format and operator conventions into a working Deepgram deployment.

Feed edge constraints back to Research and Impeller so future models are easier to port, without taking on research or core productionization work yourself.

As the team grows, take on adjacent production concerns at the edge: automated deployment, model security and integrity on customer hardware, and fleet-level observability.

You'll love this role if you

Have already fought to get a model running on hardware that wasn't built for it, and want to do that across many platforms.

Prefer changing the model to fit the hardware over changing the hardware to fit the model, and know when each is the right call.

Care about the numbers on the device, not the numbers in the notebook.

Like being the bridge between the team writing kernels and the team training models.

Want to ship to customers, not publish.

It's important to us that you have

Hands-on experience deploying ML models to edge or non-NVIDIA hardware in production. This is required. Cloud-only or GPU-only serving experience does not qualify on its own.

Working knowledge of quantization and precision tradeoffs (INT8, FP16, mixed precision, calibration) and how they affect accuracy and latency on real targets.

Experience with at least one edge or vendor inference runtime and its conversion toolchain (for example ONNX Runtime, TFLite, ExecuTorch, OpenVINO, Qualcomm AI Engine, or a vendor NPU SDK).

Ability to modify a model to fit a platform: reading and rewriting model graphs, swapping unsupported operators, and adjusting architecture parameters without breaking accuracy.

Strong Python and PyTorch, and production-quality engineering habits: tests, reproducibility, and benchmarks that others can rerun.

Comfort building automation around model conversion and deployment.

A builder mindset and clear communication: you can scope a port on an unfamiliar platform and drive it to a measured result.

It would be great if you had

Experience with speech, audio, or streaming/real-time models specifically.

Exposure to writing or reading low-level kernels (CUDA, Metal, NEON, or vendor DSP code), enough to collaborate closely with embedded engineers.

Experience with model security or integrity on deployed devices: signing, encrypted model storage, safe updates.

Familiarity with several accelerator families (Qualcomm, Apple, ARM, Intel, AMD, or custom NPUs) and their quirks.

A track record of building internal tooling that made porting or deploying models measurably faster.

Notice: We're aware of individuals impersonating Deepgram recruiters.
Building the Future of Open Finance

Payward - the parent company behind Kraken, NinjaTrader, Breakout, xStocks, Payward Services and CF Benchmarks - has spent the last 15 years building one of the most modern and globally accessible financial infrastructure platforms in the industry, built to advance an open, global financial system.

Before you apply, we encourage you to explore our culture page to understand what drives us and how we work.

The team

Founded in 2011, Kraken is one of the world's longest-standing crypto platforms, trusted by over 10 million individuals and institutions across the globe. It offers spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services, with products built for both individual investors and institutional clients.

Enterprise Transformation owns Kraken's internal AI platform. AI tooling is deployed at scale across the org. Tiered spend controls are live, a governed integration gateway is in production, and a system inventory is being built against real regulatory obligations. The next constraint is not access. It's capability. The frontier moves every few weeks, and most of what arrives is a protocol, API, or primitive that someone has to turn into something the rest of the company can safely use.

The opportunity

Design and build the technical layer of the AI platform, from integration surface to production runbook. Identify capability gaps between what's possible and what the organization can safely use, then close them by evaluating vendors or building internally.

Own the governed integration gateway as an engineering surface. You'll handle connector onboarding, authentication flows including OAuth and federated identity, reliability, and vendor escalation when things break.

Build internal tooling that extends the platform. Think agent scaffolding, reusable skills and prompt assets, evaluation harnesses for model changes, provisioning automation, and integrations between AI tooling and your systems of record.

Configure and operate tiered spend controls across the AI estate. Set caps by role and tier, build alerting rules, manage exception queues, run monthly reconciliation against vendor commitments, and eliminate the current single author risk in cap automation.

Implement the technical controls behind policy on data handling, retention, and model eligibility. This means identity integration, SSO and SCIM, entitlement by role and tier, and workspace configuration where retention terms differ by model class.

Work directly with teams to unblock them. Sit with them, understand the workflow, build or configure the thing that enables them to get real leverage from the tools.

Run technical enablement. Deep dives for tool rollouts, office hours for model releases, and authority over the engineering detail in knowledge base material.

Administer the enterprise AI estate end to end. Model turn ups, feature enablement, deprecation, provisioning queue, vendor configurations, and seat true ups.

What you bring

Enterprise SaaS administration at 1,000+ seats, ideally including an AI or LLM platform.

Demonstrated ability to build and ship working software, not just configure vendor products. Python or a comparable language should be natural to you. Version control, CI, containers, and secrets management are everyday tools.

Experience integrating against LLM and SaaS APIs with working familiarity of agent and tool use patterns, including MCP or equivalent tool calling architectures.

Working knowledge of identity and access. Okta or an equivalent IdP, OAuth, SCIM, SSO, and federated machine identity are things you've worked with.

Operational discipline. You understand intake queues, SLAs, runbooks, escalation hygiene, and the instinct to document a fix the first time you make it.

Genuine teaching ability. You can explain a technical capability three different ways on the same day to compliance, traders, and backend engineers.

Clear written communication for technical documentation, runbooks, and policy pages.

Judgment about what to build. You can tell the difference between a capability the organization actually needs and a demo that will be abandoned in a month.

Nice to haves

Experience standing up an internal developer or AI platform, including the self service and guardrail layers.

Exposure to FinOps or software asset management practice.

Experience with low code or workflow automation platforms.

Atlassian administration depth in Jira, Confluence, or JSM.

Familiarity with regulated industry audit and evidence work in financial services.

Unless a specific application deadline is stated in the job posting, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Please note, applicants are permitted to redact or remove information on their resume that identifies age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.

We consider qualified applicants with criminal histories for employment on our team, assessing candidates in a manner consistent with the requirements of the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.

Our commitment

Payward is powered by people from around the world and we celebrate the diverse talents, backgrounds, contributions, and unique perspectives that everyone brings to the table. We hire based on merit, seeking out people with the right abilities, knowledge, and skills for the job. We encourage you to apply for roles where you don't fully meet the listed requirements, especially if you're passionate or knowledgeable about crypto.

We may ask candidates to complete job-related skills or work-style assessments as part of our hiring process. These assessments evaluate competencies relevant to the role and are applied consistently across candidates for similar positions. Results are considered alongside experience and interviews, and are not the sole basis for any employment decision.

As an equal opportunity employer, we don't tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind, whether based on race, ethnicity, age, gender identity, citizenship, religion, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic as outlined by federal, state, or local laws.

Stay connected

Follow us on Twitter

Learn on the Kraken Blog

Connect on LinkedIn

Candidate Privacy Notice

About Owner

Owner is the AI-native system local business owners use to succeed, starting with restaurants.

We’re building the system that replaces the many tools owners use to run their business.

It powers everything from the restaurant’s website, online ordering, CRM, POS, and more.

Product philosophy

Most small business software makes owners do the work to get what they want: sales growth and profit growth. Owner does the work for them agentically.

Our system drives demand, converts it, and helps operators run their business day to day. As it improves, the business improves with it.

Using Owner should feel like having a team of great operators, engineers, and marketers working for you.

Our vision

We’re starting by helping independent restaurants succeed online.

But it’s not just restaurants that need our help. Most local businesses are struggling with these same problems. Huge technology corporations are taking their customers, bleeding their profits, and making it hard for them to survive.

Once we nail the solution for restaurants – we’ll scale it into every other local business type.

In the future we envision, tens of millions of local business owners will use our technology to succeed in the digital age.

Our traction

Since 2020, we've generated tens of millions in revenue and processed over a billion dollars of online orders. 1 in 5 Americans have used an Owner.com website.

More importantly, we’ve helped over 20,000 restaurant owners, and saved them nearly $200 million in fees.

Our team

Our team is now in the low hundreds. We’ve got top talent from the most successful companies in SMB software, including: Shopify, HubSpot, DoorDash, ServiceTitan, Rappi, Faire and Stripe.

We’ll be scaling even faster in 2026 to keep pace with our customer growth.

Where we work

Owner is a remote-first, global company headquartered in San Francisco, with a sales hub in Toronto. For a few of our roles we prioritize in-person collaboration at one of our office locations. Most of our teammates are distributed throughout the globe. Please review the role description and discuss with your recruiter for more details on location!

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Database Engineer to help product teams store and access data effectively at scale. You will be the default place product engineers turn to for 'which database should this live in?' and 'will this access pattern hold up?' This means leading large projects like migrations and building the platform engineers interact with. You will be driving the largest, load-bearing changes to our data infrastructure. This is a hands-on, software-engineer-first role. It is not a BI, data-warehousing, or analytics-engineering role — that work lives with our BizOps and BI teams.

This role is 100% remote and can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada.

The impact you'll have

Lead the migration of product workloads

Give product engineers a clear home for 'where should this data live and how should I access it?'

Build reusable primitives — data-sync utilities, ORM best practices, and access-pattern / schema / index review — so teams stop reinventing patterns.

Expand the product-data platform over time into caching, search, and event streaming.

Who you'll work with

Product Engineering Teams

Platform / Infrastructure Teams

This role has company-wide impact and will partner cross-functionally across the entire engineering organization.

What we're looking for

Hands-on experience working with databases inside the product — owning OLTP access patterns, indexing, query optimization, and schema design as part of building user-facing applications

Comfortable both writing code in the product stack and reasoning carefully at the database layer

Deep expertise with a major relational engine (Postgres strongly preferred) in high-volume production; experience migrating workloads (e.g., MongoDB → Postgres) a strong plus

Expertise in schema design, indexing, query optimization, and zero-downtime migrations on large, live tables

Experience scaling systems through significant traffic and data growth, in a domain where understanding access patterns at scale is a survival skill — e.g. advertising analytics, fintech / trading systems, large-scale consumer SaaS, or marketplaces

Strong software engineering ability — writes, reviews, and ships production code, not SQL alone

Flexible problem solving

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Deep sense of personal ownership and accountability

Builder mentality

Nice to Haves

Experience building shared platform primitives — data-sync tooling, ORM best practices, caching (Redis), search, or queues / event streaming

Experience with payments or financial data

Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), and observability/performance tooling

Notice - Employment Scams

Communication from our team regarding job opportunities will only be made by an Owner team member with an @owner.com email address.

We do not conduct interviews over email or chat platforms, and we will never ask you to provide personal or financial information such as your mailing address, social security number, credit card numbers or banking information. If you believe you are being contacted by a scammer, please mark the communication as 'phishing' or “spam” and do not respond.
