Elastic, the Search AI Company, enables everyone to find the answers they need in real time, using all their data, at scale — unleashing the potential of businesses and people. The Elastic Search AI Platform, used by more than 50% of the Fortune 500, brings together the precision of search and the intelligence of AI to enable everyone to accelerate the results that matter. By taking advantage of all structured and unstructured data — securing and protecting private information more effectively — Elastic’s complete, cloud-based solutions for search, security, and observability help organizations deliver on the promise of AI.

What is the Role?

Elastic is looking for a Lead Salesforce Engineer who combines deep architectural intuition, clean coding, and sharp debugging skills with an AI-native workflow using tools like Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex across the entire stack. Adaptable and deeply curious, you will dive into platforms like Salesforce and MuleSoft while holding an end-to-end ownership mindset to elevate engineering practices and turn ambiguous business challenges into high-quality, reliable production solutions. In this role, success goes beyond ticket counts; you will streamline critical revenue processes, scale platform architecture, and leverage AI to build smart automations that eliminate manual work, serving as a key technical partner driving meaningful business impact.

What You Will Be Doing

Design, build, and ship full-stack features end-to-end — UI, APIs, business logic, data models, and integrations — with a strong bias for clean, maintainable, well-tested code.

Build modern frontend experiences (component-based UI, responsive design) and robust backend services and APIs, applying solid object-oriented and software design principles.

Use AI-assisted development tools — Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, or similar — throughout the SDLC: scaffolding, refactoring, test generation, debugging, and code review, while maintaining engineering rigor over AI-generated output.

Design and implement integrations using REST APIs, event-driven patterns, and enterprise integration practices.

Where the work runs on Salesforce, develop using Lightning Web Components (LWC), Apex, SOQL/SOSL, Flows, and the platform's security model — with support to ramp up if you're new to the platform.

Explore and build agentic and AI-powered features (e.g., Agent Builder, workflow automation, AI agents) that bring real automation and intelligence into business processes, with appropriate governance and human-in-the-loop checks.

Own features through the full lifecycle: solution design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.

Contribute to CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews, and Agile ceremonies; and raise the bar on engineering practices across the team.

What You Bring

10+ years of professional full-stack software engineering experience — strong fundamentals across frontend, backend, APIs, and data.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.

Proficiency in modern frontend technologies (JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, modern frameworks) and backend development (object-oriented programming, RESTful API design, databases/SQL, data modeling).

Hands-on, daily experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, or similar — able to write precise prompts and critically evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, and performance.

Solid grounding in software design patterns, SDLC, Agile methodologies, Git, and CI/CD practices.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently design and deliver scalable technical solutions.

Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Bonus Points:

A true engineer at heart: someone who can reason about architecture, write clean code, and diagnose hard bugs — with or without AI in the loop.

Genuinely AI-native: you reach for Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex by default, and use them to build fluency across the stack, not just in your specialty.

Curious and adaptable — comfortable picking up new platforms (including Salesforce, Mulesoft) quickly when the work calls for it.

Ownership mindset: you drive features to done, care about quality, and elevate the engineers around you.

Excited about applying AI meaningfully to real business problems — automation, decision support, and smarter workflows .

Compensation for this role is in the form of base salary. This role does not have a variable compensation component.

The typical starting salary range for new hires in this role is listed below. In select locations (including Seattle WA, Los Angeles CA, the San Francisco Bay Area CA, and the New York City Metro Area), an alternate range may apply as specified below.

These ranges represent the lowest to highest salary we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the ranges may be modified in the future.

An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Elastic believes that employees should have the opportunity to share in the value that we create together for our shareholders. Therefore, in addition to cash compensation, this role is currently eligible to participate in Elastic's stock program. Our total rewards package also includes a company-matched 401k with dollar-for-dollar matching up to 6% of eligible earnings, along with a range of other benefits offered with a holistic emphasis on employee well-being.

The typical starting salary range for this role is:

$113,100—$178,900 USD

The typical starting salary range for this role in the select locations listed above is:

$135,900—$215,100 USD

Additional Information - We Take Care of Our People

As a distributed company, diversity drives our identity. It doesn’t matter if you’re just out of college or your children are; we need you for what you can do.

We strive to have parity of benefits across regions and while regulations differ from place to place, we believe taking care of our people is the right thing to do.

Competitive pay based on the work you do here and not your previous salary

Health coverage for you and your family in many locations

Ability to craft your calendar with flexible locations and schedules for many roles

Generous number of vacation days each year

Increase your impact - We match up to $2000 (or local currency equivalent) for financial donations and service

Up to 40 hours each year to use toward volunteer projects you love

Embracing parenthood with minimum of 16 weeks of parental leave

Different people approach problems differently. Staff Software Engineer, Affirm Bank

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.

About the Role

Affirm is building its own bank — and this role is one of the most senior individual-contributor seats on the engineering team that runs it. We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to be a technical anchor for a deliberately small, AI-native team that owns the systems behind Affirm's bank: vendor-integrated banking infrastructure, the data platform, and the operational tooling that holds it all together. You'll set technical direction across that surface area, own the hardest problems on the team — including the Bank ↔ Affirm Inc integration boundary — and operate with direct exposure to senior bank and Affirm leadership.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a new business from its very first systems — a startup-like build inside an established company — at a level of ownership that goes beyond delivering your own projects. As a Staff engineer here you set the bar: the architecture, the standards, and the technical strategy that the rest of the team builds against. The team is small and AI-native, the surface area is broad, and the decisions you make carry far — every system you ship serves real customers under a real bank charter, and the patterns you establish determine what the bank becomes.

What You'll Do

Set technical direction across the bank's systems. Own the medium-to-long-term technical strategy for the bank's core surfaces — cloud infrastructure, data platform, core banking configuration, CI/CD, networking, and the Bank ↔ Affirm Inc integration — and make the architecture calls the rest of the team builds against. Generalist breadth is expected; you go deep where the risk is highest.

Own the hardest problems end-to-end. Personally design, build, integrate, and operate the most ambiguous and highest-stakes pieces of the stack, and own incident response for them. You take the problems no one else can fully scope and turn them into well-defined systems with clear failure domains, monitoring, and runbooks.

Be the force multiplier on a small team. Set and hold the bar for code review, design review, and examiner-readable documentation. Establish the patterns and standards that let a deliberately small team punch far above its size, and level up every engineer who joins after you.

Ship AI-first, and push the frontier of it. Treat AI tools and agentic workflows as a load-bearing capability for code, design review, runbook generation, and operations — and actively push yourself and the team on what an AI-leveraged engineering function can deliver in place of additional headcount.

Lead vendor selection and ownership. Drive evaluation, integration, and ongoing oversight of the bank's third-party platforms across the core, data, identity, observability, and card-processing stacks. Carry the bank's most critical vendor relationships end-to-end: integration, operations, escalation, and audit.

Define the integration boundary with Affirm Inc. Set the domain edges, data flows, and integration patterns between the bank and Affirm Inc so the bank's products work seamlessly inside the Affirm ecosystem while preserving the legal and regulatory separation the charter requires. Drive this across Affirm Inc engineering teams whose systems integrate with the bank's.

Build for examiners. Partner with Legal, Compliance, Risk, BSA/AML, Finance, and Internal Audit so compliance is a property of the product from day one. The systems you design are the artifacts FDIC and state examiners will inspect — design and document them to a standard that holds up under examination and audit review.

Own the operational posture of the bank's systems. Set the reliability, observability, alerting, runbook, incident-response, and disaster-recovery practices that keep the bank standalone-operable and audit-ready, while keeping the operational footprint intentionally small.

Influence up and across the organization. Communicate technical strategy, tradeoffs, and constraints with clarity to bank executives, the Bank Board, Compliance, Risk — and to engineers outside the bank across the broader Affirm org. The relationships you build beyond the team shape how cleanly the integration boundary works.

Help grow the team and the bar. As engineers join, they inherit a function whose architecture, practices, and standards you helped set. Mentor peers, provide high-signal feedback, contribute to hiring, and lead by example.

What We Look For

8+ years of software engineering experience, with staff-level, hands-on builder credentials and a track record of owning ambiguous, high-stakes systems end-to-end through launch and operations

Comfortable owning ambiguity at the largest scale on the team — you move fast, make the tough prioritization calls, take ownership before being asked, and balance speed with the engineering judgment the hardest decisions require

Hungry to leverage AI to drive outcomes — fluent with AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Cursor, Codex, agentic workflows) and actively pushing yourself and your team to use them as a multiplier for code quality, velocity, and what a deliberately small team can ship

Bias toward simplicity — experience building toward a small, lean engineering culture that rewards 'buy over build', a default-deny posture, and standalone-operability over an abundance of tooling

A track record of setting technical direction — you've defined architecture and multi-quarter technical strategy for systems beyond your own projects, and led the execution of it across engineers and teams without needing a management title to do so

Deep systems thinking across public cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), and cloud data platforms (Snowflake or comparable) — you understand their failure modes and tradeoffs, not just their surface APIs

Regulated-environment experience — direct work in banking, payments, securities, healthcare, or another setting subject to external examination, where the work involves examiner-facing documentation and decisions

Direct experience selecting, integrating, and operating meaningful third-party platforms under operational ownership after launch

Comfortable as the technical face of the work to non-engineering stakeholders — bank executives, the Board, Compliance, Risk, Finance, and examiners — and able to document decisions so they hold up under audit review

Exceptional written and verbal communication — you can distill complex technical, regulatory, and operational concepts into clear narratives for executives, boards, and non-engineering audiences

This position requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field

Nice to have

Prior work inside a bank, neobank, Banking-as-a-Service provider, card issuer/processor, or fintech with a chartered bank subsidiary

Direct experience with a de novo bank launch, an early-stage bank buildout, or a greenfield regulated platform

Hands-on experience with a bank core, card processing / issuer processor integration, or digital bank experience integration

Hands-on experience standing up a greenfield cloud organization — fresh cloud org, IAM model, and data platform — under a tight, default-deny security posture

Familiarity with the regulatory framework that shapes the work: FDIC examinations, GLBA / Reg P (affiliate data sharing), BSA/AML, Reg E, Reg DD, Reg Z, model risk, and third-party risk management

Compensation & Location

Base Pay Grade - P
Equity Grade - USA 13

Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range. Affirm focuses on providing a simple and transparent pay structure which is based on a variety of factors, including location, experience and job-related skills.

Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents). (parent company).

USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year: $230,000 - $290,000

USA base pay range (all other U.S. states) per year: $204,000 - $264,000

Benefits

100% employer-subsidized medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents

Flexible spending wallets for technology, food, lifestyle, and family formation

Competitive vacation and holiday schedules

Employee Stock Purchase Plan

#LI-Remote

Affirm is proud to be a remote-first company! Affirmers in proximal roles have the flexibility to work remotely, but will occasionally be required to work out of their assigned Affirm office. A limited number of roles remain office-based due to the nature of their job responsibilities.

We’re extremely proud to offer competitive benefits that are anchored to our core value of people come first.
Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.

The Engineering team builds systems that power Affirm’s mission. We take pride in our craft, building reliable, performant, and scalable solutions that touch every part of the business. Whether we’re enabling new ways to pay, ensuring our platforms can scale to the most demanding levels in the industry, or developing seamless servicing experiences, our focus is on solving complex problems through exceptional engineering.

The Marketplace and App Experiences domain is the main pillar of our core consumer strategy, driving the user journey across all of our frontend surfaces: iOS, Android, and Web. The teams span across multiple products and areas to engage and provide value to our customers, starting with the Home hub in the app or website, which expands into the various product offers and journeys a user can embark on with Affirm, including providing cohesive user experiences for a user’s credit journey or purchasing power with Affirm, and redesigns of the broader visuals and experience. We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the team at the forefront of our front-end facing cross-team projects, working closely with other teams and engineers across our mobile and web technologies, while also evolving and collaborating with every product experience team at Affirm.

As an Engineering Manager on our Consumer team, you’ll help define how millions of consumers experience Affirm across our mobile apps, web experiences, and future consumer surfaces.

What You’ll Do

You will lead and grow a well-balanced team of engineers – setting clear expectations, giving direct feedback, and developing each engineer toward their next level.

You will own the team’s technical strategy and multi-quarter roadmap, tying it to major experience initiatives that build customer trust and move Affirm’s business, including large-scale redesigns and structural improvements to the consumer journey.

You will empower your tech lead and engineers to hold the design and quality bar, supporting them hands-on throughout technical design and cross-functional alignment.

You will own the availability, reliability, and performance of consumer-critical systems – on-call, incident response, and reducing operational toil.

You will drive alignment across multiple organizations and influence roadmaps on partner experience and foundational teams.

You will partner across Product, Design, and Analytics, and other Engineering teams, building trust and taking part in cross-functional efforts.

What We Look For

You have 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years managing and growing engineering teams.

You have proven experience delivering consumer-facing software and driving execution through ambiguity.

You have the technical judgment required to guide architecture, quality, and reliability decisions, with the instinct to empower senior engineers to make the calls rather than making them all yourself.

You have experience leading significant technical initiatives end-to-end, ideally decoupling or re-platforming consumer-facing systems within clear time constraints.

You are familiar with modern full-stack development – declarative UI frameworks like React or React Native, and a backend-for-frontend behind them.

You have a calm, decisive presence through change and ambiguity – building alignment, resolving tensions, and leading others through complex decisions.

You are a humble, team-first leader who builds a high-trust, psychologically safe culture, while also prioritizing your own growth.

You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance customer needs, business goals, and technical constraints.

You exhibit exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and organizational influence skills.

You have a proven ability to build alignment and drive outcomes in complex environments without direct authority.

This position requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Pay Grade - P
Equity Grade - 13

Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range.
