Reddit is a community of communities. It’s built on shared interests, passion, and trust, and is home to the most open and authentic conversations on the internet. Every day, Reddit users submit, vote, and comment on the topics they care most about. With 100,000+ active communities and approximately 130 million daily active unique visitors, Reddit is one of the internet’s largest sources of information. For more information, visit www.redditinc.com.

Reddit is continuing to grow our teams with the best talent. This role is completely remote friendly within the United States. If you happen to live close to one of our physical office locations (San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City & Chicago) our doors are open for you to come into the office as often as you'd like.

Reddit is poised to innovate and grow like never before, and Safety is a critical accelerant of that growth. The Safety org is Reddit’s central Trust & Safety organization, protecting users from bad experiences by stopping harmful content, behaviors, and abuse across the platform. We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to lead ads fraud detection and scaled enforcement within Safety. You will partner closely with Ads Product, Engineering, Machine Learning, Operations, Policy, Legal, and fellow Safety data scientists to identify emerging ads fraud, define rigorous measurement and evaluation standards, and turn investigations into durable signals, models, rules, and enforcement pipelines. This is a high-impact role with exceptional opportunity for ownership and growth: as an early leader in a greenfield space, you will help define the strategy, shape cross-functional roadmaps, build foundational capabilities, and expand your scope as Reddit’s ads integrity program matures.

Responsibilities

 • Lead the measurement and detection strategy for ads fraud by defining fraud taxonomies, labels, sampling plans, metrics, and evaluation frameworks that make performance measurable and defensible.
 • Analyze large, complex datasets and networks of behavior to uncover emerging fraud patterns, size their impact, identify root causes, and translate findings into detection and enforcement requirements.
 • Design and develop scalable ads fraud detection and enforcement pipelines in partnership with Engineering and Machine Learning, including feature generation, rules and models, near-real-time scoring, actioning, review feedback loops, and observability.
 • Own the full detection lifecycle: backtesting, threshold calibration, offline and online evaluation, launch validation, experimentation, monitoring, drift detection, incident response, rollback, and retirement.
 • Build and maintain statistical, machine learning, and GenAI-enabled models or prototypes that improve fraud detection, risk identification, investigator efficiency, and enforcement quality.
 • Balance fraud loss, platform and advertiser risk, customer experience, false-positive costs, operational capacity, and business goals when recommending detection thresholds and enforcement strategies.
 • Partner across Ads and Safety to shape strategy and roadmaps, strengthen data foundations, close policy and enforcement gaps, and ensure solutions meet governance and compliance standards.
 • Translate complex analyses into clear narratives and actionable recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leaders, and mentor other data scientists and analysts.

Qualifications

 • Relevant experience in Data Science, Applied Science, or a related quantitative role, preferably in ads fraud, financial fraud, or account risk, Trust & Safety, platform integrity, or enforcement engineering.
 • Ph.D. or M.S. degree in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or another quantitative field; with an M.S., 4+ years of industry data science experience, or with a Ph.D., 2+ years of industry data science experience.
 • Demonstrated experience building or materially shaping production detection and automated enforcement pipelines, including batch or streaming data, feature engineering, rules or models, decisioning, monitoring, and feedback loops.
 • Strong command of fraud or abuse detection methods and evaluation, including label design, precision and recall tradeoffs, calibration, threshold selection, false-positive analysis, drift detection, and adversarial adaptation.
 • Experience partnering closely with Product and Engineering teams to translate analyses and prototypes into reliable production systems; experience working across Ads, Safety, fraud, risk, or platform-integrity organizations is preferred.
 • Experience applying AI and large language models (LLMs) to practical data science workflows, such as threat discovery, content classification, signal development, investigation automation, or detection and enforcement systems.
 • Deep understanding of complex behavioral networks or large-scale activity patterns; experience with methods such as graph or network analysis, clustering, anomaly detection, or natural language processing is valuable.
 • Fluency in statistical analysis, Python or a similar programming language, and SQL, with the ability to work independently across complex data systems and unfamiliar codebases.
 • Ability to tackle ambiguously defined problems, deconstruct them into precise and tractable components, and move from investigation to scalable, reusable solutions.
 • Strong technical leadership and communication skills, with a track record of influencing cross-functional roadmaps, aligning stakeholders, and explaining complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences.

Benefits:

 • Comprehensive Healthcare Benefits and Income Replacement Programs
 • 401k with Employer Match
 • Global Benefit programs that fit your lifestyle, from workspace to professional development to caregiving support
 • Family Planning Support
 • Gender-Affirming Care
 • Mental Health & Coaching Benefits
 • Flexible Vacation & Paid Volunteer Time Off
 • Generous Paid Parental Leave

Who we are:

Sardine is the leading agentic risk platform for fighting financial crime. Our integrated solution unifies data across risk teams to help organizations stop fraud in real time, prevent AI-driven attacks, and automate fraud and AML operations. Sardine’s platform is strengthened by one of the fastest-growing fraud consortiums in the market, spanning more than 6 billion profiled devices, 800 million consumers, and 3 million businesses worldwide. Leading companies including FIS, GoDaddy, Intuit, Edward Jones, ZoomInfo, and Checkout.com rely on Sardine to secure and grow trust in their products.

Our culture:

We have hubs in the Bay Area, NYC, Austin, Toronto, and São Paulo. However, we maintain a remote-first work culture. #WorkFromAnywhere

We hire talented, self-motivated individuals with extreme ownership and high growth orientation.

We value performance and not hours worked. We believe you shouldn't have to miss your family dinner, your kid's school play, friends get-together, or doctor's appointments for the sake of adhering to an arbitrary work schedule.

Location:

Remote - United States or Canada

From Home / Beach / Mountain / Cafe / Anywhere!

We are a remote-first company with a globally distributed team. You can find your productive zone and work from there.

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Data/ML Engineer to own the data and machine learning foundation that Sardine's compliance decisions run on. Every onboarding decision we make — a payment approved, an account blocked, a KYC case escalated — is the output of a pipeline someone built. This role owns those pipelines end to end: how data arrives, how it becomes a feature, how that feature becomes a model, and how that model stays correct in production.

This is a high-impact, highly technical IC role sitting at the intersection of data engineering and ML engineering. We need someone at the senior level to set technical direction for the next order of magnitude: new feature generation, build specific models around KYC onboarding, in house entity matcher for the sanctions and more

You will write production code, make architectural calls that outlive your tenure, and raise the bar for how a small team ships fraud ML. You will work directly with data scientists, backend engineers, and the fraud analysts who use what you build.

What you'll be doing

Own the data ingestion layer that brings device telemetry, transaction events, KYC/identity signals, and third-party enrichment into the platform — designing streaming pipelines (Pub/Sub, Apache Beam on Dataflow, Flink) and batch pipelines (Python, Airflow on Cloud Composer, Spark on Dataproc) that are correct, observable, and cheap to extend.

Build and evolve our feature platform, where the same Chronon feature definitions are computed by Flink for streaming and Spark for batch, with aggregation windows from one hour to 300 days, served to the rules engine and to models under a sub-second budget.

Establish feature correctness as an engineering discipline: streaming-versus-batch reconciliation, recomputation tests against the warehouse, train/serve parity checks, and drift monitoring that catches a broken feature before an analyst does.

Productionize fraud and identity ML models — training pipelines on Vertex AI and Kubeflow, gradient-boosted and tree-based models (XGBoost, LightGBM, CatBoost, scikit-learn), hyperparameter search, SHAP-based explanations, and score normalization — and build the automated retraining, champion/challenger promotion, and rollback machinery we don't yet have.

Engineer KYC, AML, and identity risk signals: document verification and doc-KYC outcomes, sanctions/PEP/adverse-media screening results, email and phone risk, synthetic identity indicators, bank and account verification, and periodic customer due diligence — turning noisy, multi-vendor, multi-jurisdiction data into features a model can actually learn from.

Integrate and harden new data sources, including 30+ third-party enrichment providers called in parallel on the request path, plus our cross-client consortium network — owning failover behavior, timeout budgets, graceful degradation, caching, and cost.

Own the warehouse and modeling layer in BigQuery — partitioning strategy, the staging-to-mart layer cake, training datasets, and the in-flight migration off dbt onto scheduled SQL and Python pipelines.

Design the entity resolution and graph data that link customers, devices, emails, phones, cards, bank accounts, and crypto addresses across clients, including large-scale connected-components work.

Make the platform safe by construction: field-level encryption for sensitive identifiers, regional data residency enforced in the pipeline definitions, PII handling and deletion paths, and feature-level gating so a bad signal can be turned off without a deploy.

Set technical direction and raise the team's ceiling — write the design docs, run the reviews, mentor engineers and data scientists, and decide what we build versus buy.

What you'll need

8+ years building production data and ML systems, with real ownership of both the pipeline side and the model side. You have shipped models that made consequential automated decisions, not just dashboards.

Deep Python and strong SQL. You are fluent in a distributed processing framework (Spark, Beam, or Flink) and comfortable reasoning about streaming semantics — windowing, watermarks, late data, exactly-once versus at-least-once, and where correctness actually breaks.

Hands-on experience with a modern cloud data stack: GCP strongly preferred (BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc, Pub/Sub, Bigtable, Composer, Vertex AI) or the AWS equivalents, plus Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD.

Practical ML engineering depth: feature stores and feature pipelines, training/serving skew, gradient-boosted tree models, class imbalance and rare-event modeling, threshold and cost-sensitive tuning, model monitoring and drift detection, and explainability.

Experience with high-volume, low-latency serving where a feature fetch has a few hundred milliseconds and there is no retry budget.

Domain experience in fraud, risk, payments, lending, or identity/KYC — or the demonstrated ability to get fluent in a regulated domain fast. You understand why label latency, feedback loops, and adversarial drift make fraud modeling different from ordinary supervised learning.

Comfort with data governance in a regulated environment: PII, encryption, access control, regional data residency, auditability.

Strong written communication. You can explain a modeling tradeoff to a fraud analyst and a pipeline design to a backend engineer, and you write things down.

A bias toward action and comfort in ambiguity. Much of this role is deciding what should exist, then building it.

Bonus points for

Experience supporting customer-facing ML — bring-your-own-model integrations, model explainability for adverse action or regulatory review, or shadow/challenger scoring frameworks.

Experience in high-growth B2B SaaS, or as an early data/ML hire who built the function rather than inherited it.

Benefits we offer:

Generous compensation in cash and equity

Early exercise for all options, including pre-vested

Work from anywhere: Remote-first Culture

Flexible paid time off and Year-end break

Health insurance, dental, and vision coverage for employees and dependents - US and Canada specific

4% matching in 401k / RRSP - US and Canada specific

MacBook Pro delivered to your door

One-time stipend to set up a home office — desk, chair, screen, etc.

Monthly meal stipend

Monthly social meet-up stipend

Annual health and wellness stipend

Annual Learning stipend

Join a fast-growing company with world-class professionals from around the world.
Build a Safer World.

TRM Labs provides AI-powered intelligence solutions that help public and private sector agencies investigate and disrupt crime. TRM's platforms enable investigators to trace illicit activity, build cases, and construct operating pictures of threat networks. Leading agencies and businesses worldwide rely on TRM to make the world safer and more secure.

TRM's Insights team publishes the original research that shapes how journalists, policymakers and investigators understand illicit finance and the crime behind it. As Senior Data Researcher, you will take a topic from question to published piece: gather and pressure-test the evidence, find the story and write it. Few roles anywhere combine intelligence across crime types with full ownership of the public narrative.

The impact you will have:

Publish original investigative research on the threats that matter most: fraud and scams, sanctions evasion, ransomware and cybercrime, terrorist financing, drug and human trafficking, and the financial networks behind them. Your work holds up under scrutiny from top-tier press and policymakers.

Use AI heavily in everything you do. TRM is an AI-native investigative company, so expect to use Claude, ChatGPT and agent-based tools to research, analyze data, stress-test methodology, draft and package each finding for every channel.

Lead original research that answers the biggest open questions about crime and the financial networks that power it. Combine TRM's blockchain intelligence with non-crypto sources (sanctions lists, court filings, corporate records, open-source and threat intelligence) to find patterns no one else has connected, then turn them into evidence that holds up.

Extend the research beyond the blog. Turn findings into training content for investigators and compliance teams, and pass emerging threat intelligence back to TRM's product and intelligence teams.

What we're looking for:

5 to 8 years combining research or data analysis with published writing, including at least one high-impact investigation you led from evidence-gathering to final piece.

Strong analytical skills across varied sources (financial, open-source, court and regulatory records, structured datasets), using AI to speed up and check the work.

A public portfolio of investigative or research-led work with measurable reach (major media pickup, citations, audience growth). Investigative journalists, financial crime and threat intelligence researchers, and research-focused writers who do their own analysis have all done well in roles like this.

Deep AI fluency: you already rely heavily on AI across research, analysis, drafting and packaging, and you're comfortable running and quality-checking an agent-based production workflow. Experience in financial crime, sanctions, cybercrime, national security or crypto is a strong plus.

About the Team:

Insights is the public voice of TRM's research. It connects TRM's intelligence on illicit finance and crime with the press, policymakers and the wider industry.

The work is research-led, focused on the story, fast-moving and AI-native.

You'll work closely with Marketing, Communications, TRM's intelligence and investigations teams, product teams, and TRM Academy.

The team is small and opinionated, and it owns some of the most visible work TRM produces. Distributed, not distant.

Team Operating Rhythms:

Weekly Insights research review to set priorities and look at work in progress.

A weekly working session with Marketing to plan distribution and timing.

Async by default for drafts and methodology review. Meetings are for editorial decisions and launch planning.

The research and content workflow runs continuously, and you manage it day to day and week to week.

Learn about TRM Speed in this position:

Measurable example #1: Within 30 days, you publish your first piece of original data-backed research on TRM's blog, with a Marketing push behind it.

Measurable example #2: Within 60 days, you take a topic you picked through the full cycle (research, narrative, distribution) and show measurable gains in media coverage.

Measurable example #3: Within 90 days, you run the research and content workflow end to end, and your research feeds weekly training sessions for TRM Academy instructors.

The following represents the expected range of compensation for this role:

Individual pay is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. The compensation details listed in this posting reflect the US base salary only.

The estimated base salary range for this role is $160,000 - $180,000

Additionally, this role may be eligible to participate in TRM’s equity plan.

Please note – we factor in the different costs for geographies outside the United States.

Work Week Travel: This role requires participation in in-person R&D work weeks, typically 1–2 times per quarter, at a TRM hub or other designated location. Work weeks may be scheduled with as little as 14 days’ notice, and some roles may require additional travel based on team and cross-functional needs. TRM coordinates and covers approved travel, lodging, and workspace. Accommodations are available for legitimate caregiving, health, immigration, and similar constraints.

Application Instructions

If you’re interested in joining TRM, we encourage you to apply directly. Every application is reviewed by our Talent team.

Before applying, review the job description carefully and highlight the experience and impact that best demonstrate the required qualifications. Please also provide thoughtful and accurate answers to the application questions, as these will be used to evaluate your skills and qualifications for the role.

If you send your resume directly to someone at TRM, we can’t guarantee it will reach the appropriate hiring team. Applying directly is the best way to ensure your application will be considered.

Interviewing with TRM

Our process is designed to understand how you think, solve problems, and deliver impact, while allowing you to evaluate TRM. Most interview processes include a case study, an AI skills assessment, and a Leadership Principles interview.

Recruiter Intro: Qualifications, motivations, and alignment with the role.

Hiring Manager: Deep dive into your relevant experience, skills, and impact.

First Round: 1–2 interviews focused on the skills most critical to the role.

Final Round: Hands-on case study. This is usually a panel-style session where we go deeper into your craft, problem-solving, and alignment with TRM.

References: Former colleagues who can provide insight into your work and impact.

Offer: Congrats! Your recruiter will present the offer and compensation details.

Welcome to TRM: We're excited to build a safer world with you!

Your recruiter will share your specific interview plan and preparation guidance along the way.

AI Fluency at TRM

AI fluency is a baseline expectation at TRM.

We believe AI meaningfully changes how top performers operate. We expect every team member to use AI to accelerate and reimagine their craft, not just automate surface tasks.

At TRM, AI fluency means you are among the top 10 percent of operators in your function in how you apply AI to:

Accelerate repeatable workflows

Structure and solve problems

Improve output quality

Increase speed and leverage

You will be evaluated on applied AI fluency during the interview process.

Life at TRM

We are building a safer world. That promise shows up in how we work every day.

TRM moves FAST. We are a high-velocity, high-ownership team that expects clarity, follow-through, and impact. People who thrive here are energized by hard problems, experimentation, and continuous feedback. If something takes months elsewhere, it will ship here in days.

Our work sits at the intersection of AI, national security, and fighting crime. The problems are complex, the stakes are real, and the environment evolves quickly. The pace and intensity of the work reflect the importance of the mission. As a result, the way we operate requires a high level of ownership, adaptability, collaboration, and creative problem-solving.

At TRM, you should expect:

Priorities and targets to change quickly

Operating with a high degree of ambiguity

A high level of personal ownership and accountability

Close collaboration across teams and functions

Frequent, high-touch communication

Creative problem-solving and out-of-the-box thinking

A pace that rewards urgency, adaptability, and outcomes

This environment is energizing for people who enjoy building, solving hard problems, and making progress in situations that are not always fully defined. It also requires thriving in ambiguity, adjusting course as new information emerges, and maintaining focus and positivity in a fast-moving and intense environment.

We also recognize that this style of operating is not for everyone. If you are primarily optimizing for predictability or a consistently balanced workload, we encourage you to use the interview process to pressure-test whether this environment is truly the right fit. We want teammates who thrive here, not just survive here.

If you are excited by meaningful problems, motivated by ambitious goals, and energized by working alongside mission-driven colleagues, there is a good chance you will find TRM to be an exceptional place to grow and contribute.

Leadership Principles

We hire and grow against three leadership principles. They’re the standards for how we operate, treat each other, and make decisions.

Impact-Oriented Trailblazer: We put customers first and move with speed, focus, and adaptability. We treat every plan like an experiment – test, ship, measure, and iterate quickly.

Master Craftsperson: We care deeply about our craft. We balance speed with high standards, own outcomes end‑to‑end, and invest in getting better everyday.

Inspiring Colleague: We add clarity and energy, not noise. We bring humility, candor, and a one‑team mindset — giving and receiving feedback to make the team stronger.

Join our Mission

At TRM, we care deeply about our craft. We are looking for individuals who want their work to matter, who experiment with speed and rigor, and who take pride in building a safer world for billions of people. If you’re excited by TRM’s mission but don’t check every box, we encourage you to apply — we hire for slope, judgment, and the will to learn fast.

TRM is a Series C company with $220M in total funding, backed by Goldman Sachs, Bessemer, Y Combinator, Thoma Bravo, and others. From our early days automating security monitoring for compliance standards like SOC 2, HIPAA and ISO 27001 to creating the world's leading Trust Management Platform, our vision remains unchanged.

Now more than ever, making security continuous—not just a point-in-time check— is essential.
Who We Are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world's largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About The Team

Specialist Solutions Architects (SSA) are domain experts aligned to specific Stripe solutions and customer buying centers. We have in-depth knowledge of specific solution offerings and a deep understanding of customer challenges. We align with specialist product sellers on deals, advise the broader pre-sales team on complex opportunities, support pipeline development and revenue attainment, serve as an advisor on go-to-market sales plays, and provide critical insights to our product and engineering teams.

What You'll Do

You will collaborate closely with sales and pre-sales teams to drive pipeline and revenue targets, while also educating the product and engineering teams on market trends and strongly influencing the product roadmap. You will develop deep relationships with senior customer business leaders and grow Stripe's solution offerings with new and existing customers. As a subject matter expert, you will scale the broader organization by creating reusable assets and coaching others on complex, high-value opportunities.

Responsibilities

Act as a subject matter expert on Stripe's Data products (data pipelines/export, revenue and reconciliation reporting, and analytics tooling) to accelerate opportunities

Demonstrate a deep understanding of how businesses warehouse and model payments and revenue data — data pipelines into Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, and Databricks; ETL/ELT patterns; and how that data feeds financial reporting, reconciliation, and BI

Conduct deep discovery of customers' existing data architecture, warehouse, and reporting stack to architect solutions that align Stripe's Data capabilities with their analytics and finance requirements

Advise customers on how to design for complexity: multi-entity and multi-currency reporting, custom data models, integration with existing BI tools (Looker, Tableau, Sigma, Metabase) and ERP/GL systems, and data freshness/latency requirements

Create and share best practices and reusable assets such as reference architectures to enhance the quality and efficiency of the broader sales and pre-sales organizations

Partner closely with the Data product sales team and actively drive opportunities for Stripe's largest customers, leading solution strategy and owning key customer relationships

Serve as a 'Voice of the Customer' to drive product and feature request prioritization

Identify product, industry, implementation, and competitive trends, and provide actionable insights to product stakeholders and sales to influence Stripe's Data product roadmap

Act as an escalation point to drive complex technical issues to resolution with Stripe's engineering team

Represent the technical health of the business on quarterly sales forecast calls and highlight deal blockers with proposed solutions

Support marketing events including executive briefings, conferences, user groups, and trade shows

Who You Are

You're capable of engaging in both business-level and technical conversations at multiple levels of a customer organization, including finance, data, and engineering leadership. You enjoy working on products that require deep technical understanding combined with business context, and you're as comfortable in a warehouse schema as you are in a revenue conversation with a CFO. You're excited to become an expert and to share that knowledge broadly.

If you meet the minimum requirements below, we encourage you to apply — the preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum Requirements

7+ years of experience in a technical sales, pre-sales, or solutions architecture role, with a focus on data platforms, analytics, or financial reporting

3+ years of hands-on experience with data warehousing and pipeline architecture (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks) and ETL/ELT tooling

Strong understanding of how payments and revenue data maps to financial reporting and reconciliation workflows

Experience working with or implementing BI/analytics platforms (Looker, Tableau, Sigma, Metabase, or similar)

Strong knowledge of software engineering and API integration patterns, including how data pipelines are built and maintained

Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, comfortable explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

A proven ability to build strong collaborative working relationships with business partners

Ability to deal effectively with ambiguity and thrive in an unstructured, fast-moving environment

Preferred Qualifications

Experience integrating Stripe or other RESTful APIs into data pipelines or web applications

Familiarity with complex reporting scenarios: multi-entity consolidation, revenue recognition data models, or usage-based billing data

Experience with SQL at an advanced level and comfort working directly in a customer's data warehouse during discovery

Experience as a subject matter expert in financial services, fintech, or a data/analytics vertical

Pre-sales experience with Enterprise customers

This is the most senior individual contributor role in Data Platform Engineering (DPE), and the scope is deliberately larger than DPE: the architecture you define determines how Software Engineering, Analytics Engineering, and Data Science build on data for millions of patients across our Telehealth, prescription, and wellness products.

The platform runs on GCP BigQuery, Airflow on Astronomer/EKS, dbt, Confluent Kafka, Databricks Delta Lake, and Terraform/OpenTofu. Two foundational pieces are being built from scratch right now: a streaming platform and a lower environments strategy. The most consequential open question is whether streaming stays scoped to analytics or extends into production and model evaluation paths that other teams depend on. That call is yours to make, and the company will live with it for years.

We have Staff engineers who own domains and ship them well. What we don't have is a single person accountable for whether those domains add up to a coherent platform and for whether the bets we're placing now still look right in five years. That's this role.

You Will:

The multi-year platform architecture. Ingestion, streaming, orchestration, transformation, and serving as one system rather than five. You decide what we build, what we buy, what we deprecate, and in what order.

The streaming bet. Whether Kafka to Flink to BigQuery stays an analytics pipeline or becomes production infrastructure, and what that commits us to operationally, financially, and organizationally. You are the architect of the answer you choose.

The contracts between organizations. The interfaces, service boundaries, and data contracts govern how other teams consume from and write into the platform. Where your standards end and another org's autonomy begins is a boundary you define with the VP of Data, not one handed to you.

What 'trustworthy data' means here, and who is on the hook for it. You define the quality and freshness guarantees the platform makes, the tiering that determines which datasets get them, and the accountability model when they're missed. Staff engineers build the detection, validation, and alerting systems. You decide what we promise, to whom, and at what cost.

The economics of the platform. The design decisions that determine what data costs us at scale (storage and compute strategy, reservation model, orchestration footprint) and the accountability framework that keeps consumption honest as more teams build on it. You set the framework. You don't tune every query.

The self service strategy. What capabilities let Analytics Engineering and Data Science move without waiting on DPE, what guardrails keep that from breaking production, and how the platform stops being a bottleneck as demand grows faster than headcount.

The standards the discipline runs on. Testing, CI/CD, observability, schema governance, and infrastructure as code practice, adopted by teams that don't report to you because the standards are good rather than because you can compel them.

Architecture Review. You chair it, and you are the decision-maker of record for cross-team, multi-system, and cost-impacting changes, including ones that touch systems you don't own.

The seams between data and everything else. ML and Data Science readiness, HIPAA and PHI compliance posture with Legal and Security, and infrastructure hardening with DevOps. Nobody else is looking at all four at once.

The written record. ADRs, design docs, and RFCs that other teams cite as the reference. If a decision only exists in your head, you haven't finished making it.

The technical ceiling of the org. Mentorship, design review, and hands-on pairing that makes Staff and Senior engineers better. Part of how you'll measure your impact is the volume of decisions you no longer have to make yourself.

You stay hands-on throughout. You write and review production code, and you're in the room for platform-level P1s, driving the systemic fix rather than owning the runbook. This is a technical authority role, not an advisory one.

You Have:

15+ years building and owning data platform architecture, with a record of decisions whose consequences you stayed to live with, ideally across multiple companies or multiple platform generations

Evidence you've set technical direction for organizations you didn't manage, and got adoption through credibility rather than reporting lines

Experience defining the edges of your own architectural authority. Ambiguity about where your mandate ends should not stall you

Deep GCP and BigQuery expertise, plus real operational fluency in AWS (our Airflow runs on EKS). Multicloud is the job here, not a bonus

Modern data stack at platform scale: governing dbt across teams, Airflow/Astronomer, Kafka/Confluent, Databricks/Spark, Fivetran, and reverse ETL or activation platforms such as Hightouch

Event streaming in production at scale, including Schema Registry, data contracts, consumer lag management, and delivery semantics along with what they actually cost. Bonus if you've personally made the analytics versus production streaming call

Data governance and compliance in a regulated environment: HIPAA and PHI handling, data classification, access controls, audit logging, and GDPR

Terraform or equivalent, and the conviction that infrastructure changes are software changes

Strong Python and SQL. You raise the bar on production pipeline code by reviewing it, not by talking about it

Writing that creates alignment across organizations. Your design docs are where decisions get made, not summaries of decisions already made elsewhere

Preferred Qualifications:

Databricks, Unity Catalog, and Delta Lake in production at scale

CDC patterns and Flink for real-time processing, particularly where streaming infrastructure served both analytics and production or model serving paths across multiple teams

PySpark and SparkSQL for large-scale batch and streaming workloads

A BigQuery to Databricks Lakehouse migration, or an equivalent warehouse migration you led end-to-end

MLOps partnership: model training pipelines, feature stores, experimentation infrastructure, or the data foundations behind AI-driven product features

Go or Python service development for Kafka producers and consumers

Direct-to-consumer healthcare or telehealth with HIPAA and GDPR obligations

SOX compliance controls in a data engineering context

Our Benefits (there are more but here are some highlights):

Competitive salary & equity compensation for full-time roles

Unlimited PTO, company holidays, and quarterly mental health days

Comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental & vision, and parental leave

Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP)

401k benefits with employer matching contribution

Offsite team retreats

We are committed to building a workforce that reflects diverse perspectives and prioritizes ethics, wellness, and a strong sense of belonging.
