Building the Future of Open Finance

Payward - the parent company behind Kraken, NinjaTrader, Breakout, xStocks, Payward Services and CF Benchmarks - has spent the last 15 years building one of the most modern and globally accessible financial infrastructure platforms in the industry, built to advance an open, global financial system.

Before you apply, we encourage you to explore our culture page to understand what drives us and how we work.

The team

Founded in 2011, Kraken is one of the world's longest-standing crypto platforms, trusted by over 10 million individuals and institutions across the globe. It offers spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services, with products built for both individual investors and institutional clients.

You’ll work directly with the AI Growth Infrastructure Lead, the Growth Workflow Specialists across channels, and the domain experts who spec the workflows you build. You’ll operate within the Growth Foundations Group — the centralized team that builds the engine every product team in the business runs on.

The Role

We’re building an AI-native growth engine — one where agents make distribution decisions, creative is generated and iterated at scale, and the system compounds intelligence across every product simultaneously. This is not automation bolted onto existing workflows. It is a new model entirely.

As AI Engineer, Growth, you will be the second builder on this engine. Working alongside our lead architect, you execute — building, shipping, and iterating the agent orchestrations, automated workflows, and system integrations that power every growth work-stream: paid growth, lifecycle, organic search, CRO, incentives, referrals, and beyond.

This role is for someone who moves fast, builds from specs without needing hand-holding, and cares deeply about the quality of what they ship. If you’ve spent your career wanting to build systems that actually run growth rather than just support it — this is that role.

The opportunity

What You’ll Build

• Agent orchestration workflows across growth use cases — automating the decisions and executions that today require human intervention across paid media, lifecycle messaging, organic content, conversion optimization, incentives, and other growth levers

• Integrations between our AI reasoning layer, growth execution platforms, data infrastructure, experimentation systems, and analytics tools

• Shared agent infrastructure components — reusable workflow patterns, prompt libraries, and integration clients that every growth workstream draws from

• Monitoring and audit logging — ensuring every agent action is traceable, versioned, and queryable for governance and continuous improvement

• Creative and content generation pipelines — automating the brief-to-variant-to-distribution loop across growth channels

What You’ll Own

• Build velocity across new growth workstreams — you are the person who gets workflows from spec to production

• Integration reliability — connections between systems work, handle errors gracefully, and are maintained as tools evolve

• Workflow documentation — every workflow you build is documented clearly enough that a domain specialist can understand, tune, and improve it without your involvement

What you bring

• 3+ years building automation workflows, integrations, or agentic systems — using AI orchestration platforms, workflow automation tools, or equivalent technologies

• Strong understanding of API integrations — REST, webhooks, authentication patterns, and error handling at scale

• Experience working with LLM APIs — prompt engineering, structured outputs, tool use, and agent chaining

• Comfort working from a spec — you can take a workflow design and build it accurately without the architect in the room

• Growth or marketing context — you understand what you’re building toward, not just how to build it

• Speed and quality in balance — you ship fast and you care what you ship

Nice to haves

• Experience with paid media platforms, marketing automation, CRM, or lifecycle messaging systems

• Familiarity with data warehouse query patterns and event tracking infrastructure

• Background in a high-growth fintech, consumer tech, or multi-product technology environment

• Experience designing multi-agent architectures or complex agent-to-agent workflows

Unless a specific application deadline is stated in the job posting, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Please note, applicants are permitted to redact or remove information on their resume that identifies age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.

We consider qualified applicants with criminal histories for employment on our team, assessing candidates in a manner consistent with the requirements of the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.

Our commitment

Payward is powered by people from around the world and we celebrate the diverse talents, backgrounds, contributions, and unique perspectives that everyone brings to the table. We hire based on merit, seeking out people with the right abilities, knowledge, and skills for the job. We encourage you to apply for roles where you don't fully meet the listed requirements, especially if you're passionate or knowledgeable about crypto.

We may ask candidates to complete job-related skills or work-style assessments as part of our hiring process. These assessments evaluate competencies relevant to the role and are applied consistently across candidates for similar positions. Results are considered alongside experience and interviews, and are not the sole basis for any employment decision.

As an equal opportunity employer, we don't tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind, whether based on race, ethnicity, age, gender identity, citizenship, religion, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic as outlined by federal, state, or local laws.

Stay connected

Follow us on Twitter

Learn on the Kraken Blog

Connect on LinkedIn

Candidate Privacy Notice

You'll own the systems and integrations behind the employee lifecycle, onboarding, role changes, and offboarding, and you'll build them the way we build software: as infrastructure-as-code, with SRE practices behind them so they are versioned, observable, and reliable. You'll be the technical owner of GitLab's ITSM platform and the AI capabilities layered on top of it, designing virtual agents, agentic workflows, and knowledge experiences that resolve requests before they ever become tickets. You'll also own shared IT infrastructure across our cloud footprint. Working with our AI-enabled ITSM, you'll replace repetitive manual work with durable automation, and you'll partner with End User Services, Security, People, and Finance to scale those solutions company-wide. You'll be measured on automation coverage of lifecycle processes, AI deflection rates, and the reliability of the systems you build.

The GitLab Team Member Handbook

What You'll Do

Design, build, and own end-to-end automation for the employee lifecycle - onboarding, transfers, role changes, and offboarding - so provisioning and deprovisioning happen accurately and with minimal human touch.

Serve as the technical owner of GitLab's ITSM platform, including service catalog design, workflow, request/incident/change processes, integrations, and platform upgrades.

Increase AI deflection rates for all stakeholders of the ITSM system by deploying and tuning virtual agents, AI search, and agentic resolution, and by measuring what actually resolves requests without human intervention.

Identify repetitive, manual workflows across IT and its partner teams and replace them with automation built in our ITSM and Serval.

Build and maintain integrations between the ITSM platform and GitLab's core systems, including Okta, Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, JAMF, Fleet, Workday, and GitLab itself.

Manage IT-owned infrastructure as code across our cloud environments, so every change ships through version control, code review, and an automated, auditable path to production.

Apply SRE principles to the services IT owns: meaningful monitoring and alerting, clear reliability targets, capacity and cost awareness, and blameless post-incident review.

Develop the knowledge management and self-service experiences that feed AI deflection: well-structured articles, catalog items, and conversational flows that stay accurate as systems change.

Instrument automation and AI performance with clear metrics and dashboards, deflection rate, time to resolution, automation coverage, and failure rates, and iterate publicly on the results.

Set engineering standards for the IT automation stack, including version control, testing, code review, environment management, and change control, and mentor support engineers across the IT organization.

Partner with Security and Compliance to ensure lifecycle automation and AI workflows meet access, audit, and control requirements, including SOX and SOC 2.

Document architecture, runbooks, and design decisions in the handbook so the systems you build are transparent, maintainable, and operable by the whole team.

What You'll Bring

Breadth as a generalist systems engineer. You have owned a wide range of platforms end to end, and you pick up unfamiliar ones fast enough to own them outright.

Solid infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform or similar), with change managed through version control, code review, and automated deployment rather than manual, one-off work.

A working command of SRE principles, including observability, monitoring and alerting, reliability targets, and blameless post-incident review, applied to the services you own.

Experience running workloads in a major public cloud; working knowledge across all three (AWS, GCP, and Azure) is a plus.

Experience designing or operating virtual desktop infrastructure (Azure Virtual Desktop, Amazon WorkSpaces, Citrix, or similar).

A track record automating employee lifecycle processes across HRIS, identity, and endpoint management systems for a distributed or remote workforce.

Experience with workflow automation and iPaaS tooling (Okta Workflows, Serval, or similar) and with an ITSM platform; experience with a major ITSM platform is a plus.

Familiarity with AI-enabled service capabilities such as virtual agents, AI search, and agentic resolution, and an interest in using them to resolve requests without human intervention.

Strong scripting and development skills (Python, JavaScript, or similar), with fluency in REST APIs, webhooks, and event-driven integration patterns.

Experience defining and reporting on operational metrics, with the judgment to know which automation opportunities are worth the investment and which are not.

Excellent written communication skills suited to an all-remote, async-first company, and the ability to influence stakeholders well outside your reporting line.

About the Team

IT Engineering builds the systems and automation that make an all-remote company run. We own the platforms behind identity, endpoints, the employee lifecycle, and IT service management, and we treat them like products: versioned, tested, measured, and iterated in the open. We operate the way GitLab builds software - all-remote, async-first, transparent by default, and biased toward automating anything we would otherwise have to do twice. We invest heavily in AI so Team Members get answers instantly and our engineers can spend their energy on higher-leverage work. IT Engineering partners closely with End User Services, Security, Workplace, People, and Finance to make GitLab a place where the tools just work.

The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of the United States only.

Who we are

Everything is changing in how software gets built, and Sourcegraph is at the center of that transformation. With Code Search, Deep Search, and MCP, Sourcegraph is the world’s most powerful code intelligence platform that developers and agents rely on to navigate, understand, and operate on massive, complex codebases with speed and confidence.

Teams at companies like Stripe, Uber, and Dropbox rely on Sourcegraph to ship faster and with higher quality. We’re backed by a16z, Sequoia, and Redpoint, and proud to operate as a globally distributed team that values high agency, direct communication, and a deep love for developers and their craft.

If you want to contribute to infrastructure that empowers millions of developers to do their best work - join us.

Hours & location

🌎 While we hire almost anywhere in the world, we have a preference for someone to reside in the following locations for this role. However, if you feel qualified, we welcome you to apply regardless of location. No matter what, working hours must overlap with EST for at least 20 hours/week.

Preferred locations:

Europe

North America

Why this job is exciting

Sourcegraph is at the forefront of building AI tools to solve the biggest problems in the software industry, problems that only get bigger as codebases grow and as more of the work is done by agents. The Code Understanding team owns the surfaces where that intelligence meets the developer: Deep Search, our agentic, multi-step answer engine across an enterprise's entire lineup of codebases, Query Assist, turning natural language queries Sourcegraph query syntax, Smart Hovers, concisely summarizing symbols right where devs need it, guided diff review, and the APIs that both humans and AI agents rely on every day.

Most of what makes those surfaces tick is agent engineering: a blend of software engineering, machine learning, and statistics. Agent engineering tells us which model to use and when, how to retrieve and pack context, how to measure answer quality, where to fine-tune or distill a smaller model to cut costs and latency, and how to expand a single LLM call into a reliable multi-step agent. As the senior agent engineer on Code Understanding, you'll be the technical owner of it: setting the agentic direction for the team, making our products measurably better, faster, and cheaper, and raising the team's fluency in building with models.

This is a senior role: we're hiring a technical leader, not just a strong individual contributor. You'll own the hardest, most ambiguous problems in this space, set standards others follow, and influence direction beyond your immediate team. You'll get the exhilarating chance to drive the vision on how we can provide the best code understanding experience on the market by combining our deterministic, large-scale systems and AI into experiences never seen before.

Concretely, you'll own work like:

Agentic systems. You'll design and harden the multi-step, tool-using agent loops behind current and new agentic experiences, turning research and experiments into reliable, observable, and affordable products at enterprise scale.

Pragmatic use of evaluations. Crafting agentic products means needing to tell when a change actually helped, which is hard when agents keep changing and the product keeps shifting. You'll bring judgment about where evaluations earn their keep, when to use targeted smoke tests and metrics, and how to avoid noise dressed up as rigor, so we can move fast with confidence.

Models: selection, upgrading, and training. You'll decide which models we run where, drive upgrades, and fine-tune our own when that's the right call.

Retrieval and context engineering. You'll push on how we ground models in a customer's code - retrieval, ranking, context windows, citations - to make answers more accurate and verifiable.

Cost and latency. Every surface has a per-user economic budget. You'll treat cost and latency as product features, and profile, distill, cache, and right-size models so we can ship ambitious features sustainably.

You'll do this on a small, senior-leaning team that ships quickly, owns a lot of product surface, and has streamlined product management: engineers here talk to customers, frame the problem, and own it end-to-end. You'll have real agency over technical direction and a direct line to the impact of your work.

📅 Within one month, you will…

Get the Code Understanding products and their model/agent pipelines running end-to-end locally, and land your first improvements to a model, prompt, retrieval path, or eval.

Build a clear picture of where the AI engineering pain is, and the product surfaces most constrained by them.

Get to know the team and our customers, and start forming your own opinions about where our agentic products should go next.

Join the team's on-call support rotation.

📅 Within three months, you will…

Own a meaningful agentic slice of the product end-to-end, driving it from problem-framing through rollout and measurement.

Establish how the team ships model and prompt changes responsibly: the evals, dashboards, and guardrails that make quality and cost regressions visible before customers feel them.

Begin up-leveling teammates in building with models by pairing with them, reviewing their code, and modeling good agent engineering instincts.

📅 Within six months, you will…

Be the recognized technical authority for agent engineering and agentic systems on Code Understanding. You will be the person teammates, and increasingly the wider department, defer to on model, eval, and agent-design decisions.

Have measurably moved the products: better answer quality, lower cost/latency, or new agentic capabilities that weren't feasible before.

Be setting the direction of the team's roadmap where it intersects agents, bringing conviction, backed by evidence, about which bets are worth making, and pulling other engineers up to execute on them.

About you

You are a senior engineer and technical leader with hard-won skills in agent engineering - a blend of software engineering, machine learning, and statistics. This is a senior, high-leverage role that relies on your real agent engineering judgment applied to a fast-moving product, plus the ability to collaborate on steering technical direction and to be a force multiplier for a talented, product-minded team. You're equally comfortable reasoning about an eval harness, a fine-tuning run, a retrieval pipeline, and the multi-step agent loop that ties them together, and you make everyone around you better at all of it.

You operate at staff scope: you own the most ambiguous, highest-risk problems in your domain, go into whatever codebase a problem requires, set standards and patterns others adopt, and translate fluidly between engineering goals and business objectives. You influence direction beyond your immediate team. You lead through technical excellence and mentorship.

You have real agent engineering depth. You've built, trained, evaluated, and operated models in production. You think naturally in terms of datasets, evals, baselines, metrics, and error analysis, and you know how to tell whether a change actually made things better.

You build with agents, fluently and opinionatedly. You've designed multi-step agentic systems and made them reliable, observable, and cost-bounded. You have a point of view on where agents shine and where deterministic code or human judgment is required.

You are pragmatic about evaluations and conscious of cost. You know where evaluations earn their keep and where they mislead. You reach for lightweight smoke tests and real-world feedback first, and you hold cost and latency as product constraints, not afterthoughts.

You operate autonomously on ambiguous problems. Given a rough product idea, a few customer quotes, and a Slack thread, you come back with a plan, a prototype, milestones, and a point of view on tradeoffs, without it being pre-scoped. You own high-technical-risk projects end-to-end.

You contribute beyond your domain. As a senior IC, you go into whatever part of the codebase a problem requires, recognize issues beyond your immediate area, and translate between engineering goals and business objectives.

You up-level the people around you. You mentor by pairing on hard problems, providing substantive design and code reviews, and spreading agent engineering literacy across the team. You see investing in your teammates' growth as part of the job.

You're customer and product-driven. You're comfortable on customer calls and in feedback threads, you turn raw signals into requirements, scopes, and milestones, and you push back when feedback would lead the product astray.

You're pragmatic, not a perfectionist. You ship the smallest correct thing, prefer robust solutions over complicated ones, and keep a high-quality bar with simplicity.

On the engineering fundamentals:

You're a strong software engineer who can ship production services.

You're comfortable across our stack - Go on the backend, TypeScript on the frontend, GraphQL, Postgres, Docker - or you're clearly able and eager to get there.

You're fluent with agentic coding tools, and you understand and own every line it submits.

You're comfortable in an async-first, multi-service, fast-paced remote environment.

Nice-to-haves:

You've shipped an LLM-powered or agentic developer-facing product you can speak about opinionatedly: what worked, what didn't, what you'd do differently.

You've built evaluation systems for LLM or ML products.

You've fine-tuned, distilled, or trained models to meet cost, latency, or quality targets in production.

Experience with retrieval, ranking, embeddings, or search relevance.

Experience working directly with enterprise customers and translating their needs into a product.

Experience mentoring or up-leveling engineers, especially raising a team's agent engineering fluency.

Level

📊 This job is an IC4. As an open and transparent company that values competitive compensation, our compensation ranges are visible to every single Sourcegraph teammate.

Your salary is determined by your pay band for the IC4 job level. For determining pay bands, we use a number of market and data-driven salary sources, along with your location zone, and target the high-end of the range to ensure we’re always paying above market regardless of where you live in the world. Both U.S. and international locations are divided into one of four zones, determined by the cost of labor index for each area. The salary for a successful candidate will be based on level, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, and location zone. Please note that the salaries below may be adjusted in the future.

💰 The target compensation for this role is based on the IC4 pay band for your zone. You'll be a technical anchor for the team, driving the evolution of platform readiness from manual, ad-hoc assessments toward intelligent, agentic automation. Your work will directly impact GitLab's ability to ship features faster while dramatically reducing the risk of platform-readiness gaps and the operational burden of cross-platform validation.

You'll receive onboarding and technical guidance from other engineers and team leadership as you establish the technical direction for the Platform Readiness team.

What you'll do

Contribute to the Platform Readiness team's agentic workflows on the Duo Agent Platform: design, implement, and evolve the Core Agentic Workflow (currently published to the AI Catalog as a DAP flow) and the Requirements Agent, enabling automated evaluation of platform readiness assessments against platform requirements

Evolve the platform requirements knowledge base: contribute to schema design, validation tooling, and CI systems that power the agentic workflow; ensure the schema captures the full scope of platform readiness concerns across all four platforms and domains

Build integration surfaces that enable feature teams to engage the Platform Readiness team where they already work: issues, merge requests, design documents, and CI/CD pipelines

Partner with platform teams (Infrastructure, Security, Data) to translate their expertise into structured platform requirements, domain skills, and validation logic without requiring specific domain knowledge

Contribute to the quality control feedback loop: design systems that surface assessment errors, missed gaps, and content drift back to the governance loop for continuous improvement; measure and improve assessment accuracy and guidance relevance

Mentor other engineers on the team in agentic-workflow standards, prompt discipline, evaluation methodology, and the principles of human-AI collaboration in platform readiness

Contribute to technical documentation and architectural decision records that document the Platform Readiness team's technical evolution and rationale for key design choices

What you'll bring

Required Experience & Skills

5+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2+ years in backend, platform, or developer-facing tooling

Strong proficiency in TypeScript/Node, Python, or Golang (Ruby a plus)

Experience shipping developer-facing tooling where the primary user is another engineer

Understanding of GitLab-style development workflows (issues, epics, merge requests, CI/CD, code review) as first-class artifacts that automation can read and reason about

Ability to work in cross-functional environments across multiple platform teams

Experience with structured content systems, schemas, or validation tooling

Highly Valued Experience

Experience with AI/agentic systems (DAP, ADK, LangGraph, or similar) OR demonstrated ability to reason rigorously about the boundary between what AI should decide and what humans must own

Experience integrating with LLM APIs and reasoning about cost, latency, evaluation, and failure modes

Background in developer experience or platform engineering

Experience with governance patterns for shared standards and cross-org decision-making

Open source contribution history in platform, developer experience, or AI infrastructure

PostgreSQL or other relational database experience at scale

What Makes You Stand Out (Strong Plus)

You've shipped agentic workflows in production and dealt with the operational complexities of AI-driven automation

You have experience designing schema-driven content systems with non-engineer authors and evolving them as requirements change

You've built developer platform teams at scale and understand the dynamics of enabling other engineers

You have observability and monitoring experience for AI systems, including evaluation metrics, cost tracking, and failure analysis

You can explain complex concepts (agentic workflows, platform readiness, governance) clearly to platform teams, feature teams, product managers, and executives

About the team

The Platform Readiness team is part of GitLab Developer Experience, building internal developer tooling capability for platform readiness across GitLab's four deployment targets: Self-Managed, Dedicated, Dedicated for Government, and GitLab.com.
At Braze, we have found our people. We’re a genuinely approachable, exceptionally kind, and intensely passionate crew.

We seek to ignite that passion by setting high standards, championing teamwork, and creating work-life harmony as we collectively navigate rapid growth on a global scale while striving for greater equity and opportunity – inside and outside our organization.

To flourish here, you must be prepared to set a high bar for yourself and those around you. There is always a way to contribute: Acting with autonomy, having accountability and being open to new perspectives are essential to our continued success.

Our deep curiosity to learn and our eagerness to share diverse passions with others gives us balance and injects a one-of-a-kind vibrancy into our culture.

If you are driven to solve exhilarating challenges and have a bias toward action in the face of change, you will be empowered to make a real impact here, with a sharp and passionate team at your back. If Braze sounds like a place where you can thrive, we can’t wait to meet you.

Braze is the leading customer engagement platform, helping brands build personalized messaging experiences across push, email, in-app, and more, at massive scale. We use a diverse technology stack rooted in Ruby on Rails, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, Kubernetes, and more.

Developer Acceleration is a brand-new team inside Engineering. Our job is to take Braze's infrastructure primitives, like deployment, provisioning, and testing, and turn them into fast, self-serve paths so engineers can build, test, and ship without stitching multiple systems together themselves. We also own the ramps our engineers use to build and deploy AI tooling internally, including the frameworks and guardrails that let Braze build and run its own AI agents safely.

As a Platform Software Engineer, you'll help build both sides of that mission from the ground up. This team is only a few weeks old, so you'll help shape how it works, not just what it ships.

What You'll Do

Turn Braze's infrastructure primitives, like deployment, provisioning, and testing, into simple, self-serve paths so engineers can build, test, and ship without stitching multiple systems together themselves

Build the frameworks and guardrails that let engineering teams deploy internally-built AI agents safely, including governance that controls what an agent can access and do

Partner with Braze's engineering teams to define infrastructure-as-a-service primitives, build monitoring and alerting that catches issues early, and help Braze meet its enterprise-grade SLAs

Provide the opinionated abstractions, tooling, and guardrails that let engineering teams use platform primitives safely, and keep improving the observability and everyday ergonomics of the tools they depend on

This team doesn't run a formal on-call rotation yet. As one stands up, you'll help shape it, backed by Braze's dedicated platform support team who already absorb most day-two firefighting

Who You Are

This is a software and developer tooling role, not a systems administration role. If most of your experience is deep infrastructure work, heavy Terraform ownership, or cluster administration, with less time spent building the software layer on top, this probably isn't the right next step for you.

5+ years of experience building developer tooling, CI/CD pipelines, or similar software. This is not an entry-level or new-grad role

Comfortable with Kubernetes as something you build on top of and deploy to, not something you spend your day administering

You care more about good service and software design than which language you're writing in. A growing share of code today gets written by AI tooling, so design judgment matters more than raw output

You've built or explored developer platform integrations such as GitHub Apps, internal CLIs, or MCP (Model Context Protocol), and you use AI tools in your own workflow with a clear point of view on where they help and where they don't

You think about systems: interfaces, boundaries, edge cases, and failure modes

You collaborate and document well across global, remote teams, and you'd rather fix something broken than walk past it

For candidates based in the United States, the pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $104,000 and $176,040/year with an expected On Target Earnings (OTE) between $116,000 and $195,600/year (including bonus or commission). Your exact offer may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to cash compensation, this role qualifies for a comprehensive Total Rewards package that includes equity grants of restricted stock (RSUs) so that you will own a piece of our company.

#LI-Hybrid

What We Offer

Braze benefits vary by location, and we encourage you to review our specific benefits offerings for each country here. Braze offers benefits such as:

Competitive compensation that may include equity

Retirement and Employee Stock Purchase Plans

Flexible paid time off

Comprehensive benefit plans covering medical, dental, vision, life, and disability

Family services that include fertility benefits and equal paid parental leave

Professional development supported by formal career pathing, learning platforms, and a yearly learning stipend

A curated in-office employee experience, designed to foster community, team connections, and innovation

Opportunities to give back to your community, including an annual company-wide Volunteer Week and donation matching

Employee Resource Groups that provide supportive communities within Braze

Collaborative, transparent, and fun culture recognized as a Great Place to Work®

About Braze

Braze is the leading customer engagement platform that empowers brands to Be Absolutely Engaging™.
