Salesforce is a business software company started in a San Francisco apartment in 1999. Its first product moved customer relationship management, or CRM, from software installed on company servers to a subscription service accessed through a web browser. Salesforce went public in 2004 and later expanded through products and acquisitions, including MuleSoft, Tableau, and Slack.
Its platform stores customer and business data and provides applications for sales, customer service, marketing, ecommerce, analytics, integration, and workplace communication. These products are grouped under Customer 360 and share data across departments. Salesforce has also developed Data 360 for combining information from different systems and Agentforce for building AI agents that can answer questions, update records, and carry out business workflows using a company’s existing data and permissions.
