It offers spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services, with products built for both individual investors and institutional clients.

The Consumer Mobile team builds the Kraken app, the interface millions of people use to interact with their money. We work in React Native and care deeply about how the product feels, not just whether it functions. A trade confirmation should feel instantaneous. A portfolio should feel alive. Navigation should feel effortless. These details directly impact trust, and trust is everything in crypto.

The opportunity

Most companies treat design and engineering as two practices that translate to each other. We're hiring someone who treats them as one craft. The translation step is where most products lose what makes them feel good.

You'll own the feel of the Kraken app: the half-second a trade confirms, the way a chart loads, how a sheet rises from the bottom of the screen and lands where it physically should. On a product where people move their savings, moments like that build trust.

This is a mobile-first role on a React Native codebase. We work in Reanimated and Skia, bridge to native when we need to, and sweat the split between the JS thread and the UI thread.

Own the motion and interaction layer of the Kraken app. Easing, springs, gestures, transitions, haptics, sound. The perceptual surface from cold start to confirmation.

Evolve the mobile design system. You'll own the components other engineers reach for (gesture handlers, transition primitives, animated containers, motion tokens) and the standards that govern them.

Partner closely with product designers, challenging and elevating motion and interaction design from concept through implementation

Profile and optimise rendering performance, especially on lower-end Android devices where frame drops are unforgivable

Contribute to architectural decisions that affect UI responsiveness: state management, render cycles, and data flow into the view layer

Raise the bar for what 'great' means across the mobile org by review, by example, and by writing the patterns that make doing the right thing easier than doing the wrong thing.

What you bring

A portfolio. A demo reel, a personal site, a GitHub of interaction sketches, screen captures of work you've shipped that you're proud of. We don't care which format; we care that we can see your craft.

Deep React Native fluency. You know Reanimated well enough to argue with people about it. You've fought gesture handlers. You've profiled JS thread vs. UI thread work and won. You can read a frame timeline and tell us where the time went.

Taste in motion. You have opinions about easing curves. You notice when a spring is over-damped. You can articulate why a transition feels wrong before you know how to fix it.

Product judgment. You can take a half-formed brief, find the actual problem inside it, and ship something better than what anyone thought to ask for. You shape what the spec should have been rather than wait for it to arrive.

AI tools as part of how you work. Cursor, Copilot, Claude, whatever your stack is. You use them to move faster on the parts that aren't the craft so you can spend longer on the parts that are.

Written and verbal English. We're globally distributed and live in docs and async threads.

Nice to have

React Native Skia, shader work, or custom canvas-based rendering for non-standard UI.

Real native experience. Enough Swift or Kotlin to write a bridge module, and enough platform knowledge to know when one's the right call.

A motion library, design-system contribution, or interaction primitive set that other engineers picked up and used.

A visual or motion design background. You prototype in Figma, After Effects, or on paper before (or instead of) writing code.

High-stakes product experience in fintech, trading, health, or anywhere UI precision is load-bearing.

Unless a specific application deadline is stated in the job posting, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Please note, applicants are permitted to redact or remove information on their resume that identifies age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.

We consider qualified applicants with criminal histories for employment on our team, assessing candidates in a manner consistent with the requirements of the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.

Our commitment

Payward is powered by people from around the world and we celebrate the diverse talents, backgrounds, contributions, and unique perspectives that everyone brings to the table. It offers spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services, with products built for both individual investors and institutional clients.

Payward's Data team builds and operates the data infrastructure, pipelines, and analytics platforms that power decision-making, reporting, and controls across the business. The team partners closely with functions across the company, including Risk & Audit, IT, Finance, and Engineering, to make sure the data those functions depend on is reliable, well-governed, and ready to stand up to scrutiny.

This role sits within the Data & Audit Readiness team and is dedicated to supporting overall audit readiness from a data standpoint. You will own the inventories, playbooks, catalogs, and access processes that keep the Data team's systems and datasets audit ready, translating audit engagements directly into coordinated, well-documented responses. Because audit readiness is best designed rather than bolted on, this role calls for a data architect's background — someone who has built data pipelines before and knows how to shape them for traceability, access control, and testability from day one. This is a hands-on, builder's role where you will build the ETL pipelines, dashboards, and audit-ready data architecture that let Internal Audit turn audit and review planning into data-driven testing.

The opportunity

Collaborate on the technical coordination and stewardship layer for shared datasets and systems in scope for audit, including financial systems, recordkeeping, and downstream reporting processes.

Spearhead improvements to governance, communication, and coordination around upstream schema and logic changes that impact downstream systems and audit-related processes.

Support technical analysis and downstream impact assessment during the change management process to improve downstream visibility for datasets, tables, and systems in scope for audit.

Support the development and maintenance of reusable audit-ready dataset patterns, including automated validation, data quality checks, and monitoring.

Review processes and datasets in scope for Audit, examine existing operational pain points, and propose reengineering opportunities and longer-term process improvements.

Provide technical guidance to business stakeholders and the Audit PM around specific Audit requests.

What you bring

7+ years of experience in data analytics or data engineering, ideally supporting internal audit, risk, or SOX compliance functions within the fintech, payments, financial market or crypto where data quality and scale are non-negotiable.

Experience managing and designing data architecture in a regulated environment, having designed and built data pipelines with governance, traceability, and audit requirements considered from the outset.

Hands-on experience building and owning production data pipelines, with strong familiarity with dbt and Airflow or equivalent orchestration tools.

Full mastery of SQL including complex joins, CTEs and analytical functions, alongside strong Python proficiency for pipeline development and analysis.

Experience documenting technical and business requirements, including metadata, KPI definitions, business rules, data process flows, and data dictionaries.

Familiarity with data administration tasks: job scheduling, error/exception handling, and troubleshooting production ETL workflows.

Experience partnering with Data Engineering and/or Data Governance teams on shared datasets, schema changes, and downstream impact analysis.

Strong communicator who can translate audit and business requirements into technical specifications and translate technical work back into terms non-technical stakeholders understand.

Nice to haves

Experience building or scaling a data analytics function within an audit or risk organization from the ground up.

Familiarity with AI-assisted or automation tools for data quality checks, testing, or workflow efficiency.

Familiarity with audit management platforms (e.g., AuditBoard, Jira, Workiva).
