It originally developed a chatbot app but shifted toward open-source machine-learning tools after the technology behind the chatbot attracted more interest. Its Transformers library later became widely used for working with pretrained AI models.
Today, the Hugging Face Hub lets researchers, developers, and companies publish, discover, and collaborate on AI models, datasets, and interactive applications called Spaces. The company also provides open-source libraries, model training and inference services, hosted computing, and private collaboration features for businesses. Hugging Face has teams in the United States and France and operates as a remote-friendly, distributed organization.
